Mystery Express

This week is a turn from my usual romance into a twisted mystery within a mystery. In the same vein as Agatha Christie a wonderful murder mystery unfolds under the guise of a clever manuscript. Truth is often stranger than fiction.

Magpie Murders      by:     Anthony Horowitz

BLURB:

From the New York Times bestselling author of Moriarty and Trigger Mortis, this fiendishly brilliant, riveting thriller weaves a classic whodunit worthy of Agatha Christie into a chilling, ingeniously original modern-day mystery.

When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway’s latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the bestselling crime writer for years, she’s intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan’s traditional formula has proved hugely successful. So successful that Susan must continue to put up with his troubling behavior if she wants to keep her job.

Conway’s latest tale has Atticus Pünd investigating a murder at Pye Hall, a local manor house. Yes, there are dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects, but the more Susan reads, the more she’s convinced that there is another story hidden in the pages of the manuscript: one of real-life jealousy, greed, ruthless ambition, and murder.

Masterful, clever, and relentlessly suspenseful, Magpie Murders is a deviously dark take on vintage English crime fiction in which the reader becomes the detective.

Lingerie by: AdoreMe                                       Regency Phrase: Lud = Polite exclamation

A soft wine colored cammie and matching lace shorts seemed like the obvious pick for a mystery novel. The flip side of the camisole is sewn peek-a-book style in the same lace as the comfy bottoms. They are a bit of a surprise. Sexy and practical. I love that AdoreMe offers plus sizes too, with models showcasing everything a woman who loves lingerie needs.

DECEMBER BOUDOIR READ

"The Bad Luck Bride"    &   "The Bride Who Got Lucky"
Cavensham Heiresses series.
by: Janna MacGregor

BLURB:

The Bad Luck Bride:
No one is left breathless at the imperious pronouncement of her engagement to Lord Pembrooke more than Claire. She hardly knows the dangerously outrageous man! But after three engagements gone awry and a fourth going up in glorious flames, she isn’t in a position to refuse...

Alexander requires the hand of his enemy’s fiancée in marriage in order to complete his plans for revenge. It’s his good fortune that the “cursed” woman is desperate. However, what begins as a sham turns into something scandalously deeper...

The Bride Who Got Lucky:
He would do anything to protect her. Even marry her…

The son of a cold-hearted duke, Nicholas St. Mauer isn’t one to involve himself in society…or open his own heart to anyone. But driven by honor, the reclusive Earl of Somerton feels obliged to keep a watchful eye on Lady Emma Cavensham. She possesses a penchant for passions unbecoming a woman that finds Nick in constant peril of losing his well-structured solitude. She even dared kiss Nick once—an utterly unladylike, and delightful, lapse…

Emma can’t deny the appeal of the earl’s attention, and occasional affection, but she has no need for a man. There are worse fates than spinsterhood, as Emma knows too well. She still mourns the loss of her dear friend Lena, and is determined to prove Lena’s husband responsible for her death before he lures another innocent woman into a brutal marriage. But as Emma pursues her prey, a compromising moment upends all her plans. Now, with gossip swirling and her reputation in tatters, Nick may be the only man brave enough to join in Emma’s cause. . .and fight for her heart.

One of my absolute favorites is this soft gray and white lace baby doll. The chiffon skirting is ideal for every figure and the halter style is a bit of Marilyn Monroe. While reading Emma and Nick's story in "The Bride Who Got Lucky" I couldn't stop thinking about this lovely feminine lace nighty. Of course you can't go wrong with white for a wedding, and add some lovely white stockings, and the whole outfit radiates pure delight. Passionate and comfy, the best of both worlds.

Lingerie by: AdoreMe

I am so excited about this month's book pairing. Soft as silk, rosebud pink lace, is like heaven on your skin, and the petal soft, sheer chiffon skirt is irresistible. Comfy enough to sleep in all night. And pretty enough not to. The color of this flouncy lingerie, reminds me of a certain something pink that our heroine Alethea Swinton wears in this week's boudoir read.

When I found out that this soon-to-be synonymous with romance author Liana De La Rosa was coming out with a book, I knew I needed a very special bottle of wine to celebrate. This white wine hails from our own backyard in Northern California and is ideal for all seasons. The abundant stone fruit and crisp, refreshing finish is the perfect compliment for any occasion.

A humble thank you to m2 wines for their generosity
